When it arrived in Europe from India around the fourth century B.C., basil came wrapped in a tale of fatal passion, which eventually morphed into the belief that a person who smelled the herb would go mad and curse up a storm. "When I pluck a few leaves for my tagliatelle, I make sure to scream obscenities at its fuzzy little head just like the Italians used to." Unaware of basil's complicated past, some cooks might use the herb with carefree abandon, but Allen, author of The Devil's Cup: A History of the World According to Coffee, knows better.

We can’t know light without first knowing dark. Will he revert to his old ways of hurting those he cares for most? Will he go back to the same destructive patterns. Garth might have been allowed a temporary furlough to bask in the light, but that pass has been revoked, and he’s been swallowed again by the dark. He would do anything to preserve it and keep it from pollution, even if that means removing himself from the picture. Josie’s love is like nothing Garth’s ever experienced. After years of pulling each other closer before shoving the other way, they finally stopped shoving. That changed when he fell in love with Josie Gibson. With a mom who’d bailed on him and a dad whose understanding of coddling started and ended with a bottle of whiskey, Garth had never been expected to rise to any sort of occasion other than following down the same dead-end paths. He hadn’t just lived in the dark for the majority of his life-he thrived in it. Garth Black’s more familiar with this concept than most people are. If we didn’t know darkness, we couldn’t fully appreciate the light. Blog Tour Review: Losers Weepers by Nicole Williams March 3, 2015 Byzantium lawhead6/6/2023 īyzántios, plural Byzántioi ( Ancient Greek: Βυζάντιος, Βυζάντιοι, Latin: Byzantius adjective the same) referred to Byzantion's inhabitants, also used as an ethnonym for the people of the city and as a family name. The name Lygos for the city, which likely corresponds to an earlier Thracian settlement, is mentioned by Pliny the Elder in his Natural History. Ancient Greek legend refers to the Greek king Byzas, the leader of the Megarian colonists and founder of the city. It may be derived from the Thracian personal name Byzas which means "he-goat". It has been suggested that the name is of Thracian origin. Byzantium was colonized by Greeks from Megara in the 7th century BC and remained primarily Greek-speaking until its conquest by the Ottoman Empire in AD 1453. The Greek name Byzantion and its Latinization Byzantium continued to be used as a name of Constantinople sporadically and to varying degrees during the thousand year existence of the Byzantine Empire. Byzantium ( / b ɪ ˈ z æ n t i ə m, - ʃ ə m/) or Byzantion ( Ancient Greek: Βυζάντιον) was an ancient Greek city in classical antiquity that became known as Constantinople in late antiquity and Istanbul today. Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden6/6/2023 I still can't get over the fact that I love something like that LOL The characters are so complicated and dark, even the good guys, and I love it!! The case is complicated, lots of twists and unexpected events, and I have to admit, I did not guess who the killer might be. I think that shows just how brilliant the writing is, because I usually don't enjoy this type of thing :D OMG I loved every page here, even the twisted POV from the killer! Yes it is, but obviously not for Cynthia Eden. There is always something happening, but the best of it is, I didn't see almost half of it coming! One this was especially a shock and boy, I'm glad this author isn't lovey-dovey with the suspense part, it just makes it more real!Īnd the worst part for me was, I had to stop reading at the scene when they find out who the bad guy is! I almost died, that part was intense and brilliant! I was gripping my reader like a lunatic, I am lucky I don't bite my nails cause I wouldn't have any by now :DD Best suspense I have read so far, seriously amazing with brilliant writing!
